Hola! We've now partnered up with a school in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. Every so often we'll be updating them with what's been happening at SMC. This will include traditional events that take place each year such as Christmas and Easter preparation and celebration. Then there's the more unusual ones, such as Red Nose Day or Sport Relief. In return we will receive updates on events they take part in. We sent a powerpoint in Spanish to share our own Christmas traditions - thanks to Year 6 for putting this together in such a short period of time! To see it just click below on 'download file'. Here's a message we received about Spanish traditions at Christmas. Here are a few carols in Spanish to get you ready for Christmas! Children throughout the school have been learning the words to 'Noche de Paz' (Silent Night) in order to sing at our Carol concert in school and Carol Service at 'Infant of Prague', the school's parish church, later in December. Hola amigos! The new school year has started and learning more about the Spanish language and culture is ready to go! So watch this Blog to see what we do. Just click above to help support your child's learning! Children in year 5 have been talking about the sort of things they do at the weekend. They've been listening to Spanish phrases relating to typical weekend activities and matching them with the correct picture. It was a surprise to find how many 'ver la television y juegar juegos de computadora' - watch the television and play computer games! In year 2 we've been learning how to say, read and write names of pets in Spanish. We found out hat some pet names are similar to how they are pronounced in English. So what do you think 'una tortuga' means?
Children in Year 4 have been learning how to read and pronounce Spanish vocabulary based on items found in a typical classroom. Here they are trying to match the correct picture to the correct word and then say the word in Spanish. In Year 6, children have been finding out what happened to Spain during world War 2. In addition they've been reading different texts in Spanish based on children who lived in London at that time. Their task here was to put the different mixed up parts of the text into the correct order to tell the story accurately in Spanish. Children in Year 5 have been learning the genders of different pet animals ('mascotas' or 'animals de compagnia'). It's very important to understand the gender of nouns!
Year 6s have been learning more about how Spanish verbs are constructed, using a stem and an ending. they have also been learning the different verb endings used to represent the relevant personal pronouns (I, you, he, she, they, we etc.). It can be very tricky!
On our 'European Day of Languages' one of the many activities was to make Spanish tapas. Look at how the children had a go at making their own ...then tucked in to eat them! Estupendo! |
